Thanksgiving this year was much like years past. On Wednesday evening we drove over to my parents home & enjoyed an evening of their company. Thursday one of my brothers & his family joined. My mom got up at the crack of dawn (or before) to make her delicious pies (can you say blackberry?!). The kids wreaked havoc on my parents living room, spreading toys everywhere. Good thing that my dad is enchanted with his grand kids. I honestly think that little Miss A could do anything & get away with it when it comes to her grandpa. Aunt J got her snuggles and kisses in before dinner & we all sat down to enjoy the feast! I love that after dinner is devoured my family then sits down to play board games. We dearly missed the company of my sister + family and my brother & his wife.
Friday is the day of Christmas decorating. My house goes from a shrine to my favorite season to one of my favorite holiday. Down come the leaves, pumpkins and fall colors and up go the twinkling lights, stockings, nativities & Christmas cheer. All day Christmas music is loudly played as I sing along & the children dance. This is one of my favorite days of the year.
Saturday morning we attempted to leave early (didn't happen) and headed to the Mr's family festivities. My BIL & SIL were kind enough to host the entire family at their home. It was wonderful. Delicious food & good company. My favorite part? The Mr's uncle playing the guitar & singing. Family joined in with the singing & my little Miss A danced. Uncle would sometimes loose his place in the song from watching & enjoying Miss A's dancing. It was lovely.
Later that evening the Mr & I took the family 2 1/2 hours north to the home of some of our closest friends' parents. We played games while our oldest & their oldest played & reacquainted themselves. The next day we attended church with them & their sweet new baby was blessed. Then we lunched with their families & relaxed for the afternoon.
What a wonderful holiday with many things to be thankful for, including:
my sweet husband
my dear children
our extended families
family we miss during these gatherings
good friends
freedoms enjoyed in this country
a loving Father in Heaven
